In a statement today (18) His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, the Archbishop of Colombo claimed that the Easter Attacks were carried out by those who wanted to increase their political power, and not by religious extremists.
He added that the group of people concerned used religious extremism to achieve this.
“We view this tragic incident as a culmination of a particular group of people trying to ensure their power. Therefore, we request the people of this country not to resort to violence in the name of religion, language or race,” said His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith.
