The date of the presidential elections could be announced within the next 14 days, Chairman – Election Commission, Mahinda Deshapriya said.
There was speculation the EC would declare the date this Friday or Saturday. However, EC Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya on Saturday(14) said the Commission had not yet reached a decision.
According to EC Director General Saman Ratnayake presiddnetial elections will be held between 15 November and 7 December this year under the prevailing law of the country unless and otherwise the law is amended by the responsible authorities.
