The emergency regulations prepared for the supply of essential food items was passed in Parliament a short while ago.
Accordingly, it was passed with a majority of 81 votes. 132 voted in favour and 51 voted against the same.
This comes after President Gotabaya Rajapaksa declared last Monday (30) that emergency regulations on the provision of essential foods would come into effect.
The regulations apply to the supply, selling at higher prices, and hoarding of essential food including paddy, rice, and sugar, the President’s Media Division stated.
Accordingly, the President has declared these regulations under the powers vested in him subject to Article 2 of the Public Security Ordinance.
