Enjoining order on popular band Jaya Sri lifted

24 Feb 2022

BY Buddhika Samaraweera The Commercial High Court (HC) in Colombo yesterday (23) lifted the enjoining order issued against Rohitha Jayalath and Rohana Jayalath of the band Jaya Sri, preventing them from singing, releasing to the internet and publishing songs on the band’s albums Mod Goviya and Sundariye. The court had earlier issued an enjoining order restraining the singing, releasing to the internet and the publishing of 20 songs from the said albums. The court yesterday lifted the enjoining order after considering the request made by the respondents Rohitha Jayalath and Rohana Jayalath to lift the said order, stating that the same had been issued against the law. Aruna Liyanage, a former member of the Jaya Sri band, had filed the case stating that he had formed the said band with the two respondents and that he had since left it. The plaintiff had stated in court that the two respondents were singing songs on the albums Mod Goviya and Sundariye composed by Jaya Sri without his consent and that it was in contravention of the Intellectual Property Act.
