Expecting to win more seats: JVP

06 Aug 2020

By Skandha Gunasekara The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) expected to win more seats at the new Parliament than the last, The Morning learnt. “It’s hard to say this early but we are sure of getting more seats than we had in the last Parliament,” former JVP parliamentarian Bimal Ratnayake told The Morning. He said that it was likely that certain political party supporters had intentionally not voted. “I believe that not only the UNP (United National Party), but also the Government supporters would have refrained from voting.” He said that the pandemic along with voters’ disappointment with the Government would have also affected the voter turnout. “We expected a lower turnout than at the presidential election and with the people disappointed in the Government, a division in the UNP, and the corona pandemic, all these things would have affected the voter turnout.”
