Chief Epidemiologist Dr. Sudath Samaraweera said today that facilities have been put in place to prevent the spread of new COVID-19 strain in the country.
He said there would be no hindrance to conduct COVID-19 testing in the country.
“If a case of new COVID strain was detected, facilities are available to provide special treatment to the patient and to prevent the spread to others,” he said.
He said the new strain spreads at a fast pace but no incidents of deaths have been reported so far.
“However, emergency treatments are needed for a large number of patients,” he said.
