29 Jan 2020

By Bernadine Rodrigo On the 26th of January 2020, a new Guinness record was set for the highest runway walk in the history of modelling. The record took action nowhere lower than the Kala Patthar base at Mount Everest, Kathmandu Nepal. The ramp was set at an altitude of 5,340 meters where the models were adorned in stylish winter clothing. The event was organised by the Tourism Board of Nepal along with the Visit Nepal Campaign 2020 and the brand KASA Style in partnership with RB Diamond. While this was meant to be one of the primary events in amping up the tourism industry of Nepal, it is also hoped by the organisers that it would raise awareness about the current climate change suffered by the world as they organising companies are greatly involved in manufacturing bio degradable products. The record began on the 18th of January where 48 individuals gathered together at Lukla to go through the course.  The models included eight from Nepal and one each from the countries Finland, Italy, Singapore and our very own Sri Lanka. Ornella Gunesekere, Miss Universe Sri Lanka 2018 represented the island and has proved to the world what Sri Lankan talent truly is capable of.
