The Finance Ministry and Treasure staff have decided to donate a percentage of their salary to the Widows’ and Orphans’ Pension Fund.
The staff has decided to donate their salaries after President’s Secretary Dr. P.B. Jayasundara made a request from the public servants to donate their entire, part or day’s salary of May to the Widows’ and Orphans’ Pension Fund to overcome the financial constraints faced by the Government as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
Accordingly, the Treasury Secretary has donated 50% of his May salary, a majority of the staff members have donated 25% and 10% of their May salaries while some have contributed a day’s salary, the Finance Ministry said.
