Five arrested in connection with three-wheeler thefts

There have been reports of the theft of two or three three-wheelers a day in the last few days, said Police Media Spokesman, DIG Ajith Rohana.

Meanwhile, a three wheeler has been taken into police custody along with a suspect during investigations into a theft of a three wheeler following a complaint lodged with the Ratnapura Police.

Further investigations into the suspect have revealed details about a three-wheeler theft racket.

Accordingly, 13 three wheelers have been found.

Five suspects have been arrested for selling these three wheelers after swapping out number plates and repainting them.

Three of the suspects are businessmen.

It has also been revealed that the documents obtained from various finance companies have been reprinted and submitted in lieu of the registration certificate of the stolen three wheelers.

Police further say that there is an opportunity for the persons who have been robbed of three wheelers in the Ratnapura area to identify the three wheelers.
