Five persons have been killed in four road accidents yesterday while several others were injured, the Police Media Unit stated.
Two persons were killed in a road accident in the Parasangaswewa area in Anuradhapura yesterday.
In the accident, a private bus collided head-on with a motorcycle. The motorcycle rider and the pillion rider were killed. The deceased were identified as residents of the Sadamalgama area in Rambewa.
Meanwhile, one person has been killed in a road accident near the Pinnaduwa Police Station on the Southern Expressway.
The accident took place when a lorry carrying cement collided with a cab.
The deceased has been identified as a cab driver, a resident of Samanthurai.
A 57-year-old man, who was a resident of Mahiyanganaya, was killed when his motorcycle was collided with a bus.
Another fatal road accident took place in the Gokarella area yesterday when a lorry and a motorcycle collided head-on.
The deceased has been identified as a 27 year old resident of Ibbagamuwa.
