While pointing out that the Directors of Gas companies in Sri Lanka are free citizens despite the fact that several gas related explosions have happened across the country, former Chairman of the Committee of Public Accounts (COPA) Anura Priyadharshana Yapa says that the fact that such directors are not behind bars is a testament that Sri Lanka is heading towards an abyss.
He made this statement while speaking to the media yesterday (14).
"If these types of gas explosions were to happen in another country, the authorities would ensure that the board of directors are behind bars. Our gas companies are not saying a word or revealing what is actually going on. I spoke about this with the Minister of Finance as well, but it is clear that there is someone above the Cabinet Ministers who is making these decisions. Minister Bandula Gunawardana can respond to these issues better," he said.
Yapa further mentioned that the reason as to why the President had travelled abroad was unknown even to him, but at such a time, such trips were unnecessary.
"We are called to set an example to the people. I don't know why the President had travelled abroad, but this is not a time for us to be on vacation. This is the time where we have to sit down with the people and listen to their sorrows, work together and not stay idle," Yapa concluded.
