Four arrested over Kelaniya murder

Police Special Task Force (STF) has arrested four suspects, two males and two females, on charges of aiding and abetting in a murder. Additionally, 21.121 grams of heroin, a pistol, a magazine, four 9mm type bullets, and three mobile phones were also taken into custody by the STF officers along with the suspects. The arrested suspects are accused of aiding and abetting the murder of an individual at Pattiya Junction in Kelaniya on 14 September. The two male suspects, who are aged 37 and 34, were identified as the residents of Wellampitiya and Modera Uyana in Colombo 15 while the two female suspects, aged 35 and 46, are the residents of Modera Uyana in Colombo 15. They have been handed over to the Peliyagoda Police Station for further investigations. Earlier, investigations were initiated in search of the suspects involved in the shooting and killing of a person at the Pattiya Junction area in Kelaniya, through the final call logs of the victim’s mobile phone.  According to the Police, the gunmen had arrived on a scooter and opened fire using a pistol at the victim who was walking on the road. The victim had already succumbed to gunshot wounds by the time he was rushed to Ragama Hospital. The deceased has been identified as a 39-year-old by the name of Mohammed Ariff Mohammed Hussain, a resident of the Welewatte area of Wellampitiya, said the Police at the time.
