The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) announced yesterday (11) that power interruptions lasting four hours will be imposed today (12) with the approval of the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL), shortly after the PUCSL announced that there would be no scheduled power cuts islandwide on 13, 14, and 15 April in view of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year holidays on 13 and 14 April, and Good Friday, which falls on 15 April.
The PUCSL also said that the duration of power cuts on 16 and 17 April will only last for two hours and 15 minutes, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
According to the CEB, the rolling power cuts for today have been scheduled within the period from 8.30 a.m. to 10.45 p.m. Areas under the Groups A, B, C, and D in the schedule will be imposed power cuts from 8.30 a.m. to 10.45 a.m., and 5.30 p.m. to 7.15 p.m. In the areas under Groups D, E, and F, the power cuts will be imposed from 10.45 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Power cuts will also take effect from 1 p.m. to 3.15 p.m. for Groups G, H, and I, while they will take place from 3.15 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. for Groups J, K, and L. Groups E, F, G, and H will experience outages from 7.15 p.m. to 9 p.m., while power cuts will be imposed from 9 p.m. to 10.45 p.m. for Groups I, G, K, and L.
Meanwhile, at a media briefing held yesterday (10), Ceylon Electricity Board General Employees’ Union President Malaka Wickramasinghe stated that the current power crisis is being alleviated to some extent.
