Gautam Adani on a private visit to SL says Pathirana
The visit by Gautam Adani is not an official visit, but a private visit, and it is the duty of Sri Lanka to create a conducive atmosphere for investors, said Cabinet Spokesperson Minister Ramesh Pathirana.
He made this statement during the cabinet media brief held today (26).
“The Adani visit is not an official visit, but a private visit. It is reported that the Adani company will inquire into other investment opportunities in Sri Lanka. It is the responsibility of the Government to create a conducive environment for investors to visit. It is important for Sri Lanka to attract foreign investments in order to resolve the dollar shortage in the country and to enhance development,” said Pathirana.
He went on to say that the Adani company has already expressed interest in developing the West container terminal at the Colombo Port, and further stated that it was the responsibility of the Government of Sri Lanka to create a suitable environment and infrastructure to attract investors.
“When compared to the rest of the world, Sri Lanka has a considerably low number of Investors. So it is the responsibility of the Government to create a suitable environment and infrastructure for investors to be attracted to Sri Lanka,” Pathirana concluded.
Billionaire Gautam Adani arrived in Sri Lanka yesterday (25), and it was reported that he would be meeting with President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, whereas The Morning reported today that the President’s Media Division (PMD) was not aware of the speculated meeting.
