GL meets UN Asst. Secretary General to discuss SDG goals

A meeting was held between the United Nations Assistant Secretary General and UNDP Assistant administrator Kanni Wignaraja and Foreign Minister G L Peiris today (15). This was made known through the Sustainable Development Council of Sri Lanka official facebook page. According to the post, the discussion focused on a number of important areas relating to acceleration of SDGs including integrated planning and innovative financing tools for SDGs. Ms Wignaraja appreciated the efforts taken by Sri Lanka towards SDGs and highlighted the opportunities for SDG driven planning and financing and had stated that the UN system remains ready to extend support to Sri Lanka in these areas. In response, Peiris acknowledged and appreciated UNDP's 55 years of partnership with Sri Lanka and stated that Sri Lanka remains committed to achieving its global SDG commitments by the target year 2030. In attendance at the meeting was Secretary to the Foreign Ministry Admiral Prof. Jayanath Colombage and other senior officials of the Foreign Ministry, Director General of the Sustainable Development Council Ms Chamindry Saparamadu, UNDP Resident Representative Mr Robert Jukham and other senior officials of the UNDP.
