Govt. must reach an agreement with opponents: Wimal

06 Jan 2022

Considering the betterment of the country, an agreement must be reached with even those who are not siding with the Government says Minister of Industries Wimal Weerawansa. He made this statement while speaking to the media yesterday (05). “I believe that what must not be done is to remove those who are with us. We must intervene and reach an agreement with even those who are not on our side. We have to reach an agreement with even those in the opposition to help the country overcome this current situation. This is a time which a broader alliance is needed to emerge from this crisis," said Weerawansa. He further added that he would not consider it a personal matter between two ministers, in reference to the dismissal of Susil Premajayantha. "This matter about Susil was discussed in cabinet. I don't think this was a personal matter between two ministers. We must look at the bigger picture. Only then, people who criticise can also rectify the situation," said Weerawansa. Additionally, in regards to the statement made by former President Maithripala Sirisena that the Government was moving in the wrong direction, Weerawansa said that Sirisena would have made such a comment only after 2019 and that Sirisena has the right to criticise if he wants to.
