Gurukula gets a ‘practice turf wicket’ from Sri Lanka Cricket

07 Sep 2022

A newly built “practice turf wicket” at Gurukula College, which was funded by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), was declared open recently. The opening of the turf wicket will help the Gurukula cricketers, who compete in the Division One School Tournaments, covering all age groups. This is also going to help the school’s under-19 cricketers, who compete in the Under-19 Division One School Tournament, as the matches of the said tournament are played only on turf wickets. The turf wicket was opened in the presence of College Principal Dr. Kusala Fernando, SLC National Development Centre Head Kamal Dharmasiri, and SLC National Cricket Operations Head Chinthaka Edirimanne. Apart from the above dignitaries, Gurukula College Master in Charge of Cricket Anil Mangala Kumara, Overall Cricket Coach Rasika Dilesh, SLC School Cricket Co-ordinator Maurice Dela Zilwa, and the school’s Old Boys’ Association President Kapila Silva were present at the occasion. The turf wicket was built at the school under the “Turf Wicket Construction Programme” of SLC, an initiative of SLC President Shammi Silva, who decided to provide a centre or practice turf wickets to all schools playing under-19 Division One cricket.
