The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) has issued a statement condeming the social media ban that is currently in place in Sri Lanka.
Speaking to The Morning today (03) HRCSL commissioner Dr Nimal Karunasiri stated that the social media ban violates the right to free speech and information.
"We condemn the social media ban as it violates human rights and the right to information as well. This must not continue and we want the Government to immediately revoke the decision," said Dr Karunasiri.
All social media platforms have been banned since midnight yesterday and an islandwide curfew is currently ongoing in Sri Lanka.
