Is the Govt. using trainee graduates to carry out odd jobs? In some scathing allegations against the Government yesterday (23), the Joint Trainee Association has claimed that the Government is deceiving the graduates of the country. "We are taken to weigh sugar, rice and flour at shops. We distribute goods and conduct surveys for the Government. They are using educated graduates to do odd jobs,” Galle District Coordinator of the Joint Trainee Association Sithum Sampath stated at a press conference yesterday (23). Sampath went on to say that the Government has failed to grant permission for permanent employment, and reminded the Government that over 10.5 bn rupees worth of revenue from the sugar scam is yet to be collected as well 2000bn rupees through the oil scam. He condemned the Government of urging the public to tighten their belts during the pandemic, while the Mendis company still owes 14000 bn rupees in debt, stating that the Government is only encouraging such frauds and scams to continue. Additionally, he went on to mention that requests made by estate workers, teachers and trainees are turned down, whereas the Government is spending lavishly on beautification projects such as walking paths, targeting the upcoming elections.
