The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has commenced an inquiry against the Electrical Superintendent at the Kerawalapitiya Grid Substation, whose negligence caused the recent countrywide power outage, as stated in the interim report submitted by the committee appointed to look into the matter, the Ministry of Power said.

Ministry Spokesman and Director of Development Sulakshana Jayawardena told The Morning that the respective Electrical Superintendent had been already transferred to a different division and that an inquiry and investigation are currently ongoing.

He said that disciplinary action would be taken by the CEB as per the disciplinary code of the Board.

An expert committee that probed a 2020 cascading failure of Sri Lanka’s power grid has made 11 recommendations in an interim report submitted last week.
