18 Feb 2022

Unidentified men who claimed to be part of the State Intelligence Services have allegedly attempted to kidnap Illankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi (ITAK) youth wing assistant secretary and Law student Mr. Nithanshan, The Morning learns. Speaking with ITAK MP Shanakiyan Rasamanickam today (18), it has been confirmed that an investigation into the matter is currently ongoing and Nithanshan is at the Kalmunai police station to lodge an entry. "Nithanshan is currently at the Kalmunai Police station lodging his complaint. The incident happened when some unidentified men arrived in a white van claiming to be from the State Intelligence services and attempted to abduct Nithanshan. The van had also been following Nithanshan around for a while. Nithanshan had then managed to run to the nearest checkpoint and complain in haste to the police officer at the checkpoint. Whereas, this seemed futile as the white van and the unidentified men were not stopped and the police officer at the checkpoint claimed that he was mute and couldn't understand nor hear Nithanshan's plea for help," said Rasamanickam. Rasamanickam further confirmed that Minister of Public Security Sarath Weerasekera has been informed of the matter and Weerasekera has instructed the Police ASP to look into the investigation as a matter of priority.
