Italian Ambassador pays courtesy call to Army Chief

HE Mrs Rita Giuliana Mannella, Ambassador of Italy for Sri Lanka and the Maldives yesterday (7) paid a courtesy call on the Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, General Shavendra Silva at the Army Headquarters. This was made known through the Sri Lanka Army official website yesterday (07). The cordial meet touched on general matters of mutual interest and gestures of cooperation and understanding that prevail between both nations and also the preventive mechanism against the COVID-19 pandemic where General Shavendra Silva functions as the Head of the NOCPCO and its Task Force. General Shavendra Silva at the end of the cordial interaction wished her good luck with her continued diplomatic commitments in future and awarded a memento to symbolize goodwill. Major General Deepal Pussella, Adjutant General Sri Lanka Army received her at the entrance to the Army Headquarters. HE Mrs Rita Giuliana Mannella, Ambassador of Italy for Sri Lanka and the Maldives after her graduation in Law at the University of Pisa, joined the diplomatic service, working on multilateral economic issues, human rights, development cooperation and the fight against hunger. She served in New Delhi as First Secretary (Commercial), in New York as Consul and then as Deputy Permanent Representative at the Permanent Representation to the UN Rome based Agencies (FAO, WFP, IFAD). Prior to arrival in Sri Lanka, she worked with the Director General for Development Cooperation as Director for communication and visibility.
