29 Jun 2022

Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekara yesterday (28) met with the Qatar Fund for Development Deputy Director General and requested a credit line to import petroleum and gas to Sri Lanka. “Met with the Deputy Director General of the Qatar Fund for Development. Discussed a possible credit line facility for petroleum and gas supply. Was informed that funds have been allocated for medical supplies, and will consider the request for a credit facility and support the IMF [International Monetary Fund] programme,” the Minister tweeted yesterday. Wijesekara had also called on Qatari Minister of State for Energy Affairs and Qatar Energy President/CEO Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, and discussed the supply of petroleum products, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), and liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Sri Lanka to overcome the energy crisis with the assistance of Qatar Energy – Qatar’s State-owned petroleum company – and the Qatar Development Fund. Wijesekera said he was informed that funds have been allocated for medical supplies, while the request for a credit facility and support for the IMF programme is under consideration.
