Kenyan nabbed at BIA with cocaine in belly

BY Dinitha Rathnayake A 39-year-old Kenyan man, who arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport, Katunayake at around 10.30 a.m. on 31 October aboard the Emirates flight EK650 from Kenya, was arrested on suspicion of drug possession by officers of the Customs Narcotics Control Unit and was subsequently found to be in possession of cocaine in his abdomen. The arrested suspect was examined by the body scanning machine at the airport premises and it was observed that the suspect had hidden something suspicious in his abdomen. Upon further questioning, the suspect admitted that he had swallowed cocaine-containing pills. It was observed that about 50 pills containing such drugs were in the suspect's abdomen, out of which six pills containing the drug were taken out at the airport. Subsequently, the suspect and the goods were handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau by the officers of the Customs Narcotics Control Unit for further investigations. It is reported that 15 more pills have since been taken out.
