Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana’s name was nominated for the post of Speaker of the Ninth Parliament, The Morning learnt.
SLPP General Secretary MP Sagara Kariyawasam confirmed the nomination.
Minister Dinesh Gunawardena is the Leader of the House.
Kariyawasam added that MP Ranjith Siyambalapitiya’s name was also proposed for the position of Deputy Speaker of Parliament while Chief Government Whip would be Minister Johnston Fernando.
Meanwhile, MP Angajan Ramanathan has been nominated as Deputy Chairman of Committees.
It is also learnt that MP Jagath Pushpakumara was proposed for the Deputy Government Whip post.
The decisions were reached during yesterday’s (19) parliamentary group meeting of the Government.
