Agriculture Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage stated that a kilo of rice will be provided at a fixed price of Rs.97 during the forthcoming Sinhala and Tamil New Year.
He said paddy is procured at a fixed price and that fertilizer is also provided to farmers.
The Minister also said that the propaganda carried out by the Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa regarding the purchase of paddy was untrue.
"The government has set aside Rs. 23,000 million to purchase paddy. This is the highest amount allocated for the purchase of paddy in history," he said.
