15 Oct 2021

Eng. Lal Weerasinghe was appointed the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) Sri Lanka Group Chairman during the AGM that was held on Friday, 17 September 2021. The newly appointed Chairman is a Chartered Mechanical Engineer from the University of Surrey, UK, and currently the Sierra Readymix (Pvt.) Ltd. Director/General Manager. He is also an alumnus from the first NDT batch of the Ceylon College of Technology – now known as the University of Moratuwa. He comes with over 50 years of service in the field, both locally and overseas. Weerasinghe’s new vision is largely to encourage all young engineers who pass out from universities to utilise their theoretical knowledge to develop technologies that would help the sustainable utilisation of resources, in order to overcome the modern problems in our society and become young entrepreneurs with their innovative ideas and solutions. Weerasinghe has plans to liaise with universities in order to determine solutions that can help towards the economic development of our country. He also aims to select a few CSR projects through the Sirasa “Gammadda” programme, as IMechE had done previously when the IMechE President Carolyn Griffiths had joined them for the opening ceremony of the Ginigathhena School project.
