Mahendran’s extradition: Minister submits AG’s document to Parliament
Justice Minister Ali Sabry submitted a document sent by the Attorney General on the extradition of former Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran, to Parliament today.
He said due process was followed over the extradition request against Mahendran and that he wrote to the AG and sought a clarification as to the present status.
“The AG carefully prepared a document and submitted to me about the background, instructions to the CID and proceedings in the Magistrate’s Court. So we will not rest until the last person who is responsible for this brought before the courts. I’m submitting the document,” he said.
He said the Attorney General of Singapore has sought a clarification from our AG’s Department asking whether the kind of offence which Sri Lanka has charged here falls within the first schedule of the extradition treaty between the two countries.
“So that is ongoing and the AG will continue to make representation,” he said.
