Manju Lalith Warna Kumara’s name Gazetted to fill Samarasinghe’s vacant seat

Manju Lalith Warna Kumara’s name has been Gazetted to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Kalutara District Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP Mahinda Samarasinghe from his Parliamentary seat, the Election Commission stated today (30).

This comes after Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP Mahinda Samarasinghe handed over his resignation as Member of Parliament recently.

He is to assume duties as Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to the USA and Mexico in the 1st week of December.

Earlier, Samarasinghe revealed while addressing the Parliamentary sessions that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has asked him to take office as the new Sri Lankan envoy to the US and Mexico.

“I expect to resign from Parliament within two to three days and to leave for America on 29 (November).”

The Parliamentarian’s appointment comes after the retirement of Ravinatha P. Aryasinha from public service, who served as the former Sri Lankan Ambassador to the two Northern American nations.
