Manusha files FR before SC against Cabraal

Pics by Saman Abesiriwardana Samagi Jana Bala Wegaya (SJB) MP Manusha Nanayakkara has filed a Fundamental Rights petition before the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka, against the appointment of former State Minister of Money and Capital Markets and State Enterprise Reforms Ajith Nivard Cabraal as the Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL). In the petition, Nanayakkara has highlighted several allegations made against Cabraal, including the high profile case of Imaad Shah Zuberi. The Forensic Audit into the affairs of the CBSL in respect of the issuance of treasury bonds and other matters during the time in which Cabraal previously served as the Governor was also highlighted. Accordingly, the petition has requested the Court to declare Cabraal's appointment as null and void. In his Fundamental Rights petition, Nanayakkara has named the Attorney General, Minister of Finance Basil Rajapaksa, the Monetary Board of the CBSL, Secretary to the President P. B. Jayasundera and Cabraal himself as respondents.
