02 Nov 2022

At a press conference held on Monday (31 October) at the Cinnamon Lakeside Hotel in Colombo, Minister of Sports Roshan Ranasinghe announced that the Middle East Crown 5 professional boxing tournament will be held in Sri Lanka for the first time. Five stages of the Middle East Crown Boxing Series – one of the more popular professional boxing tournaments in the world – will be hosted in Sri Lanka on 26 November at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium. Speaking at the press conference, Minister Ranasinghe said: “First of all, I would like to thank DJMC Events Dubai Chairman Dunstan Rozairo for organising an international-level tournament in Sri Lanka at a time when Sri Lanka is facing a difficult economic situation. We request him to organise similar tournaments and programmes in Sri Lanka in the future. Our hope is to implement many programmes in Sri Lanka by utilising international relations with the President of DJMC Boxing, who took his name to the world through his international career. “I am confident that Dunstan Rozairo will support us to develop sports in the country. We also hope to hold the world-famous beach surfing tournaments in Sri Lanka which can attract tourists. There we will be able to win more international attention, and the sports economy that everyone speaks about will become a reality.” Eighteen international boxers and two world-champion female boxers from 14 countries such as the US, India, Japan, Indonesia, Thailand, Ukraine, Tajikistan, Pakistan, the Philippines, and Ghana are set to participate in this tournament. These international matches are arranged by DJMC Match Maker and Technical Director Roshan Nathalial, who is active in the Middle East, Africa, Australia, and Europe and has won excellent awards for organising matches from the World Boxing Council.
