Missing monk’s body found in Kotadeniyawa; four suspects arrested

The body of missing monk Uduwila Dhammasiri Thera of Hanwella was recovered by the Kotadeniyawa Police at the Nawana Cemetery in Kotadeniyawa, Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said. The prelate was abducted on 2 January 2021. The DIG said four suspects, three males and a female, have been arrested in connection with the abduction. The reason for the abduction has been revealed to be a dispute between the woman and one of the men with the Thera. The suspected woman and the man were revealed to be the parents of two novice monks residing in the temple where Uduwila Dhammasiri Thera was residing. The body had been recovered by the Police and transported it to the Negombo Base Hospital, where it was identified. The autopsy is to be conducted by the judicial medical officers today, stated the Police Spokesman. Further investigations are being conducted by the Mirihana Crime Investigation Unit, while the van that was used to abduct the monk has also been recovered by the Police.
