More than 1,000 arrested for violating quarantine laws for the second day

A total of 1,038 people have been arrested in the past 24 hours for violating quarantine laws. This is the second day that more than 1,000 people have been arrested for violating quarantine laws. The highest number of arrests were made in the Matale area with 156 persons. 130 from Kuliyapitiya and 79 from Matara were among those arrested. Police Media Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana stated that the total number of persons arrested is 20,140. The Police spokesman said that 7 persons were also arrested during the drone operations carried out yesterday. A special sticker will be affixed during the vehicle inspection today (02), the police spokesman said. He said the aim was to avoid delays due to multiple inspections of the same vehicle. Meanwhile, MP Chaminda Wijesiri states that the United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) expresses its displeasure over the implementation of the quarantine law based on social status.
