  • Caroline Jurie, Chulpadmendra, and Pushpika summoned by court
BY Buddhika Samaraweera Colombo Acting Chief Magistrate Chandima Liyanage yesterday (14) ordered 2020 Mrs. World Caroline Jurie, 2021 Mrs. Sri Lanka Pushpika De Silva and model Chulpadmendra Kumarapathirana to appear before the relevant Conciliation Board this Saturday (19) in connection with the controversial incident that took place at the Mrs. Sri Lanka 2021 pageant in April 2021. The case pertaining to the alleged removal of the crown placed on the head of De Silva was taken up before the court yesterday and the two suspects – Jurie and Kumarapathirana – and the complainant, de Silva, appeared before the court. The Cinnamon Gardens Police had commenced an investigation into the said incident following a complaint lodged on 5 April 2021, by De Silva. Accordingly, Jurie and Kumarapathirana had given statements to the said Police on 8 April 2021. The Police had filed the case on 19 April 2021. The Police also informed the court that De Silva had refused to settle the case without an apology for the alleged insult done to her and that the two suspects had also refused to apologise. The court had been further informed by the Police that the Government had suffered an alleged loss of Rs. 700,000 due to this incident. On 4 April 2021, the finale of the Mrs. Sri Lanka 2021 pageant was held at the Nelum Pokuna Mahinda Rajapaksa Theatre in Colombo. The event was telecast live via several platforms including mainstream television channels. However, the competition attracted much attention when De Silva, the contestant who was crowned as Mrs. Sri Lanka 2021, had her crown unceremoniously removed from her head on stage by Jurie. The latter claimed that De Silva was disqualified to be crowned due to being a divorcée, something De Silva denied.
