National Hospital of Nephrology declared open today11 Jun 2021 National Hospital of Nephrology declared open today11 Jun 2021 The National Hospital of Nephrology (Kidney Disease) in Polonnaruwa, which is the biggest Nephrology Hospital in South Asia, was declared open today (11) under the patronage of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. The newly constructed National Hospital of Nephrology in Polonnaruwa with a capacity of 200 beds, also consists of 100 transfusion beds, five state-of-the-art operating theaters, and two Intensive Care Units. The hospital was constructed as a donation of the Chinese government as per a request made by then-President Maithripala Sirisena, during a visit to China in 2015.
