A group of female inmates at the Negombo Prison has launched a protest on the prison rooftop while several more female inmates had supported the protest from the ground, it is learnt.
Protesters demand that their trials be expedited and they be allowed to go to their children.
The detainees had displayed protest slogans written on their clothes.
Meanwhile, a group of inmates of the Welikada Prison continued their protest on the roof of the Welikada Prison for the fourth consecutive day.
They too demand that the courts be opened and their proceedings expedited.
