No decision on A/L, Shishyathwa postponement
The Commissioner General of Examinations B. Sanath Pujitha yesterday (15) said that a final decision has not been reached to postpone the upcoming Grade Five Scholarship Exam (Shishyathwa) and the General Certificate of Education Advanced Level (GCE A/L) Examination.
He said that the facts are being considered by the Ministry of Education at present.
“We cannot hold the Examinations if the students have not completed the syllabi. However, on the other hand, if we postpone the GCE A/L Examination, the university entrance and the entire process will be put on hold. This is what I told the media. However, they had misinterpreted it,” he told The Morning.
He further said that the Ministry of Education is currently investigating the possibility of holding the Examinations in August.
The question of when the Exams will be held was raised on 14 March, when the Commissioner General had allegedly said that they would be postponed.
However, the Secretary to the Ministry of Education Prof. Kapila Perera had stated that no decision had been taken to postpone the 2021 Grade Five Scholarship Examination and the GCE A/L Examination and that they are scheduled to be held in August.
