No plans for power cuts; purchase of emergency electricity approved: PUCSL

The Public Utilities Commission says that permission has been granted to purchase emergency electricity in the current situation. The commission said there was no need for power cuts despite the dry weather. Janaka Ratnayake, Chairman of the Public Utilities Commission stated that hydropower generation has been severely reduced due to the prevailing dry weather conditions throughout the country. He further stated, "There is a debate today as to whether there will be a power cut in the future. The Commission is already taking necessary steps for this. We have already taken steps to obtain the permission of the Commission to obtain additional electricity in the event of such an urgent need. I do not think there will be a power cut in the near future due to the current situation. ”
