Now is not the ideal time to implement Port City Bill: Wijeyadasa

18 May 2021

SLPP MP Wijeyadasa Rajapaksa today (18) stated in a media briefing that this is not the ideal time to instill the Port City Economic Commission Bill. He stated that instead, the country's leaders need to focus on eradicating the COVID-19 pandemic which is causing a significant loss of life every day. "Our government politicians have been very inconsiderate about how they are handling the present crisis. They have put aside all concerns about the lives of people that are being lost due to the prevailing pandemic so that they can focus on implementing the Port City Bill which will lead the country towards economic destruction," he said. He also mentioned that politicians should be more flexible and invite opinions of other parties instead of opposing them consistently, as they might be talking out of concern for the country's population. He revealed that there were 29 amendments that should be made in the Port City Economic Commission Bill because they had been inconsistent with the present Sri Lankan Constitution. He said that the Supreme Court will present the amendments to the Bill as well.
