NZ attack was carried out by an individual, not a faith, ethnicity or culture: Jacinda Ardern

03 Sep 2021

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has made it clear in a tweet that the terrorist attacks which took place in Auckland today were carried out by an “individual, not a faith, ethnicity or culture”. Meanwhile, the New Zealand High Commission in Colombo acknowledged with grave sadness the events that unfolded today. “The Flag of New Zealand’s Sri Lankan community is, and will always be, an integral and treasured part of Kiwi society,” the High Commission stated on twitter. New Zealand police on Friday shot and killed a “violent extremist” who was known to authorities, after he stabbed and wounded at least six people at a West Auckland supermarket. The attacker, a Sri Lankan national who had been in New Zealand for 10 years, was inspired by the Islamic State militant group and was being monitored constantly.
