Necessary steps have been taken to resume to issue National Identity Cards (NIC) under the one day service, the Department of Registration of Persons said.
The service was suspended in the past to prevent the general public from gathering due to the spread of COVID-19.
Recipients of the NICs were required to make a reservation to visit the Battaramulla Head Office or the Southern Provincial Regional Office.
"You can avail the service by calling 011 5 226 126 / 011 5 226 100, or the Identity Card Division of the Divisional Secretariats," the Department said.
However, persons who wish to obtain a NIC under the normal service can send their requests to the Divisional Secretariat Identity Card Division through the Grama Sevaka, the Department said.
The printed Identity Cards will be sent to the applicants by post.
