Police officers have shot at civilian protesters in Rambukkana today in an attempt to clear the Rambukkana Railway Crossing where the demonstration was staged.
As of now, one person has succumbed to gunshot injuries, while two more are undergoing emergency surgery. Several others are critically injured, according to the Kegalle Hospital Director.
So far, 24 persons have been injured, along with 8 police officers.
Police Spokesperson SSP Nihal Thalduwa told media that before firing, warnings were issued and tear gas was fired which resulted in the protesters throwing stones. Following this, Sri Lanka Police have open fired.
