Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said today that an integrated plan should be implemented immediately to address the issues of the human-elephant conflict in the country.
MP Premadasa said Sri Lanka ranked second globally in human deaths due to human-elephant conflict and first in elephant fatalities according to statistics presented to the committee on public accounts in Parliament.
“This is a sad and unacceptable situation which needs to be addressed immediately through the implementation of an integrated and overarching human-elephant conflict mitigation plan.
“I hope the relevant authorities possess the requisite political will and conviction to embark on this urgent programme,” he said in a series of tweets.
