Outdated fisheries regulations to be updated

The Fisheries Ministry has decided to update the outdated fisheries regulations and consult with fishermen every two months to learn of their prevailing issues. A meeting was held at the Ministry of Fisheries yesterday (27) morning on the problems of the fishing community and coastal and marine environmental issues. The meeting was held with State Minister of Fisheries Kanchana Wijesekera, Minister of State for Coast Conservation and Low Land Development Mohan de Silva, officials of the Coast Conservation Department under his Ministry, officials of the Marine Environment Protection Authority, and the Department of Fisheries and Fisheries Harbour Corporation, Fisheries Harbour, and Ferry Issues. Addressing the gathering, the two State Ministers said that the two Ministries would jointly look into the matters of the fishermen, update the outdated rules and regulations, and consult with the Ministry officials every two months to discuss the progress of these discussions and future developments.
