A total of 1,666 people infected with the Covid-19 virus were identified yesterday (25). Of the 1,666 infected people identified yesterday, 1,656 belong to the New Year's Covid cluster. Another 10 people were from abroad and were being quarantined. The highest number of daily Covid-19 infections in the country was reported from the Colombo district yesterday (25). Accordingly 360 cases were reported from Colombo yesterday. More than 100 daily infections have been reported in four other districts. 256 cases were reported in Gampaha, 139 in Kalutara, 172 in Galle and 170 in Ampara. In addition 71 cases were reported daily in Jaffna, 60 in Hambantota, 54 in Kandy, 52 in Nuwara Eliya, 45 in Badulla and 40 in Batticaloa. Accordingly, the total number of Covid-19 infections in the country has increased to 296,516. Accordingly, 24,815 people are still receiving treatment at the hospital. With another 45 Covid deaths being reported, the total number of Covid deaths in the country has risen to 4,099. Meanwhile, more than 320,000 people in the country have been vaccinated under the Covid-19 eradication program yesterday.
