Over 550 Covid deaths in two weeks: Ministry
More than 550 deaths due to Covid-19 infection have been reported in Sri Lanka in the past two weeks, according to health reports.
The total number of deaths in the two weeks ending yesterday (22) was 568, of which 327 were men, while 241 women were reported dead in the past two weeks.
Five people under the age of 30 have died of Covid infection in the past two weeks.
139 people between the ages of 30 and 59 have died due to Covid infection during that period.
Meanwhile, 424 people over the age of 60 have died of Covid infection in the past two weeks, according to health reports.
Health officials also point out that older people have a higher risk of dying from Covid infection.
To date, 3,959 Covid deaths have been reported in the country.
Of these, 13 deaths were reported in the first wave, 596 in the second wave and 3,350 in the third wave, according to the National Operations Center for the Prevention of Covid-19 Outbreak.
