Oxygen percentage in Colombo declining: Ministry of Environment

The Ministry of Environment said that scientific surveys have confirmed that the percentage of oxygen in the atmosphere of the city of Colombo is gradually declining in proportion to the population.

Accordingly, the Ministry and the Colombo Municipal Council have launched a joint programme to prevent air pollution in the city.

Minster Mahinda Amaraweera, Colombo Mayor Rosy Senanayake and other officials at a discussion held at the Ministry of Environment had drawn attention to this matter.

There are plans to launch a daily oxygen testing programme in the city of Colombo.

The Ministry further stated that Mayor Senanayake has requested for the necessary expertise and technical assistance for the conservation of the environment in the Municipal Council area.
