The 5.65 hectare expansion of the Pallekele Industrial Park owned by the Board of Investment (BOI) of Sri Lanka will create up to 1,500 jobs, The Morning learnt.
Speaking to The Morning, BOI Executive Director of Zones M.K.D. Lawrence said that this expansion will take place in 2021. The proposal to handover the government-owned land to the BOI as a free grant was approved by the Cabinet this week.
“The expansion would go up to a maximum of three factories depending on the requirement of the investor and the industry,” said the Executive Director.
Responding to concerns about the environmental impact, he said that the Central Environmental Authority (CEA) will determine whether an environmental impact assessment (EIA) is required.
The existing 195 acres of the Pallekele Industrial Park house factories and companies from 26 industries.
