Pandora Papers: no need to mention Nirupama’s name says Gammanpila

04 Oct 2021

Minister of Energy Udaya Gammanpila says there is no need to mention the name of former Minister and cousin of the President Nirupama Rajapaksa over the alleged revelations of illegal apartment and art deals as detailed in the Pandora Papers. “The Bribery and Corruption Commission must investigate the assets of a politician if their name is mentioned. I have heard that there is a retired politician from a business family. There are seven in Asia. One is from Sri Lanka,” he said at a press conference today. Meanwhile, Minister of Ports and Shipping Rohitha Abeygunawardana stated that if anyone in Sri Lanka has earned money illegally, action will be taken against them. “That is a personal matter. I cannot immediately announce how the Government can intervene. If anyone has earned money illegally in Sri Lanka, there is a law. We will take action inline with that. It doesn't matter who is involved,” he stated.
