PCR testing : Govt. urged to do random tests

With the increasing number of Covid-19-positive cases around the country, the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) urged the Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry of Health to start conducting random PCR tests within the society.
Speaking to the media, GMOA Editor Dr. Haritha Aluthge lashed out at the Chief Epidemiologist, saying that he should realise that by now the country should opt for random PCR tests in society.
He also noted that instead of issuing media statements, a proposal must be formulated on how to increase random tests within society which should then be submitted to the President.
“From the statements that the Chief Epidemiologist makes, it seems like he still doesn’t accept the importance of conducting PCR tests,” Dr. Aluthge said.
Unless the country goes for random tests, it would not be able to stop creating other clusters, like the Minuwangoda and Peliyagoda clusters, in the future.
